Postcard from the Anthropocene

The goal was to design a postcard showcasing ideas/objects from the 'Anthropocene' and later combining them with another student's work.

Initial idea (individual work)

Umbrella that catches precipitation and transform it into a drink.

Final product (with partner)

"Getting access to clean, fresh, drinkable water while on the go has become increasingly difficult but with the new advances of Rein all of your water drinking problems are solved! Rein has technologically innovated an environmental friendly umbrella that filters rain water into drinking water through the stem of the umbrella. Another eco friendly feature, is that it is powered through Wild-Fi™ meaning that Rein connects to the Wi-Fi that is radiated from plants. Rein is supplying you with refreshing drinking water while helping the environment."

Umbrella (Rein) powered by plant wi-fi (Wild-fi by A. Froese).

Learning Significance

  1. Me and my partner had a difficult time combining these two objects. By that, I mean our final idea was the first/obvious one we had and we could not go further away from it. If we were less hesitant, who knows what we would have created other than this? This assignment enforces design thinking and how creativity and abstract ideas can lead to unexpected (fun) results.
